How to Determine Exercise Dosage for Children with ASD?

I will be glad to hear from you
In adaptive physical education training for children with autism, it can be difficult for a trainer to get into the right load right away, and the books recommended “do 15 repetitions” for an exercise for a certain age of children, for example, may not be possible.
The coach's task is to try, start small, take into account the child's psycho-emotional state, control the technique of performing the exercise.

In working with children with ASD, it is normal for you to do only 2-3 reps at first in one exercise due to the developmental characteristics of your athlete.
With the wrong dosage, you can provoke unwanted behavior in a child with ASD.

What is important when choosing a dosage:
1. The choice of dosage is always individual!
Depends on the characteristics of the child's behavior, the time of attention, external environmental factors, on which the psycho-emotional state of the child depends (the same exercise on a day with bad weather, for example, you will do it shorter than usual).
2. It is recommended to do the task in one working approach no longer than 20 seconds. An exception is prolonged aerobic exercise.
3. Start with 1-2 sets of 2-4 reps, gradually increasing the load. Little is not bad.
4. Determine the dosage clearly, always saying the number of repetitions in advance.
5. Evaluate whether the child is doing the exercise technically correctly, and only then increase the load.
6. For a different orientation of tasks, training of different physical qualities, the dosage will differ.

Most effective working dosage = 3 sets of 10-12 reps with 20-30 seconds rest.
Life hack: I add 2-3 repetitions to "get" children into work, so the dosage may be higher than the standard.

‼ ️ And‼ ️ Better to do fewer reps and more sets, alternating with rest, than one set that is too volumetric, which will quickly tire the child and provoke psycho-emotional overload.
