Adaptive Exercises for Children with Developmental Disabilities: Home Security Classes

Adaptive Exercises for Children with Developmental Disabilities: Home Security Classes

Physical activity plays an important role in the development and health of our children, but safety always comes first. Therefore, I have prepared for you a list of adaptive exercises that can be performed at home without posing a danger to children with special needs.

1. The balloon game "Hit!": the balloon is large, it flies slowly, which will provide a lightweight, initial version of the ball game and is suitable for home. We train eye-hand coordination, attention, reaction speed, strength of the shoulder girdle muscles.

2. Light massage: in the morning or in the evening before going to bed, try 3-5 minutes of light massage for your child - stroking, rubbing the whole body and kneading the muscles with deep pressure. This useful technique will give the child a sense of security, reduce anxiety. (First it is better to learn "home massage" from a specialist).

3. Bottle Games: Create a game where you need to put bottles and roll the ball in their direction. This will develop accuracy and accuracy.

4. Obstacle course: line up several pillows on the floor sequentially, on which the child needs to pass, followed by chairs, under which you need to crawl and boxes that need to be stepped over. Repeat several circles in different directions. We train motor planning, attention, basic motor skills, coordination of movements.

5. Treasure Hunt: Hide small items around the house and invite the children to find them. It develops hand-eye coordination, attention, memory, thinking.

At the end of each game, be sure to encourage your child with your favorite prize, because studying at home, even playing, can be difficult for a child with ASD. And be sure to encourage yourself! Being a coach for your child is not an easy task either.
